Look for Free and Low Cost Activities for Your Family
As a single parent, saving money is almost always necessary. It is often impossible to find much if any extra money to spend. This does not mean you cannot still enjoy some fun time out with the kids.
Keep your eye open for free or low cost family events in your area. For example, my home town offers fun fairs throughout the summer. These aren’t big fairs bur rather events with fun activities for the kids and food for the whole family. These events are often sponsored by local churches.
Many churches have fundraisers open to the public. There are ice cream socials and bake sales for instance. Treats are often very affordable.
If you have younger children, you can spend some time at the local parks. Enjoy an afternoon of swings and slides with your children. Pack a picnic to enjoy while at the park.
A picnic is a nice way to get outside without spending a lot of money. You can control the cost of the foods you pack and prepare for the picnic. It is a lot cheaper than eating out at a restaurant.
My town also offers free concerts in the summer. These are not rock concerts but rather performances put on by local artists. Search for offerings such as these in your own town.
If you keep aware of what is going on in your town or city, you can surely find family activities that won’t cost a lot.
